Dee Dee had her puppies Friday night, Dec 2nd. It was a very easy delivery, just an unusual place. She turned up her nose at the puppy room and whelping box I lovingly prepared for her. She went all over the house searching for a better place. Her final choice was between my bed and my walk in closet. She decided on the closet.
So if that is what Miss D wanted, then thats what Miss D would get. I understood why she liked it. It was nice and cosy and private in there and still part of the bedroom where she was used to sleeping. I took my clothes out and put them in the guest bedroom closet, put a tarp down over the carpet and a comforter and blankets over that, hung a heat lamp on the clothes pole and we were in business. Well after many trips downstairs for the baby scale, the notebook, the ribbons, etc etc. It was a very quick and easy delivery. In 3 hours she had 8 puppies. Two hours later another one and an hour later the last one. Of course it was a surprise as the Dr said we were having only 6 puppies, but I knew after 6 were born that she still had more in there. I let her stay in the closet for three days until the weather turned unseasonably warm and she was becoming over-heated so it was time to move down to the whelping box.
